Based on the legendary Battle of Naushera (6 February 1948) — Indian forces under Brigadier Mohammad Usman repelled a Pakistani force of 11,000, killing 2,000 while losing only 33 of their own. Usman, a Muslim officer who refused to join Pakistan's army at Partition, became a symbol of India's secular foundation. Pakistan placed a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head. He was the highest-ranking Indian officer to die in action during the 1947–48 war, and was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra.
